Meet our new baby....

As of September 17th we have a new little bull calf. He is really special because he is our first baby off our Hereford bull. It's just something about Herefords that have my heart. When a calf is newborn they are the most precious and cutest thing you will ever see. The kids and I get all beside ourselves and can just watch them forever. Most of our Momma cows are really sweet and kind and will let us get close enough to them unless Wrangler {our blueheeler} is around and they HATE Wrangler!
Meet Deuce... he looks just like his Daddy so we figured it was only fitting.
So many ranchers choose their name according to the bloodline and yatta yatta but I on the other hand like a cow that has swagger and its all in the name.

Deuce and his Momma
Right beside the calf is an opening into a round pen and that's where these two love hanging out she has been hidding her little calf in the grass from predators that's there natural instinct. If they are in the big pasture it can sometimes takes us up to hours trying to find their calf they hide them good

Duece is meeting all the other H5 ranch family. Bentley & Mavrick are checking him out

Also on the H5 we had to Freeze Branding and do shots and apply an anti parasite
Working the cows consists of herding them into the working pens and down to the alleyway into the Priefert Squeeze Chute for us to properly handle them. This can take all day or half day depending on if the cows cooperate.

First you need to give the cow a little haircut where you want your branding to go
If you look closely you can see the numbers whelped up and in 6-8 weeks it will turn white and you will really be able to see it I will post on that then.

This is the working pen and head chute

These are some of our clowns workers.
Herbert was mad because he hasn't made the blog and now he can officially say he made it LOL
Pedro looks like he could care less

Brother n Law on the phone true loving.
Can you tell he is a newly wed? So Sweet

When the Farmer and I were dating Mason was 7 years old and now he has grown up and working for us. Crazy how time has flown by. He is giving her a little massage.

  4. Cute new baby! He looks so furry! It's always interesting to me to see the different ways that people do branding. We don't shave their hair, and we use the hot irons. But hey, it all gets the job done!
