Newbies

We have some newbies at the H5 ranch, as you know we went to Texas last weekend to get 12 Mama red heifers and a few had babies already born and the rest is bred and awaiting arrival. Here is just a few of these precious new members.

The kids talked the guy into letting them bring home these 2 "Dannies"...( I thought that is what girl donkeys were called and my brother said no they are called Jimmies and the Farmer said laughed and said no y'all are both wrong they are Jennies. LOL

The kids have decided to name them: solid grey is Dolly and spotted is Molly. They are really sweet and friendly and surprisingly quite, I just wondering if they are quite before the storm.

 

The outside of the office was delivered Monday and the arena panels are up, will post pics soon.

Last of the Harvest

I know how late this is but better late than never right?
Cotton was the last crop to harvest and now that it is out of the field harvest is over but farming is not. It slows down drastically but over it is not! Now they will be disking the stalks and getting all of the fields ready to plant for Spring. this year was one of the prettiest cotton years we have had in a while. Here are pictures of this years cotton harvest.

This is called a 5 lock bowl of cotton, there are four locks also.

Three years ago we came across a bald eagle pair that made its huge nest in our break and have been living their ever since. We enjoy them building their nest in a new tree each year and watching their babies fly out and venture off. I need to get some close up pictures of the nest so you can see how huge it is.

If you Build it they will come....& Thanksgiving Break

 While we are still trying to finish the barn we decided to take on 2 more projects: building a riding arena and also an new farm office. The Panels arrived last Friday and the Farmer has been getting loads of sand hauled in since the spring so now it is fixing to take shape and actually come together. Maci is extremely happy and the other 2 are as well. Once the panels are up and set we will then have to get lights, timers, and sound system for Maci jams. HaHa She wants to plug in her iPod and ride.
      The sand has been placed and now waiting on the panels to be set up and secured. We are so excited!

Our office is at the shop a 2 miles down from our house but this year a lot of stealing has been going on in our neck of the woods and so far we have been really lucky. They haven't broke into the office yet but have took batteries from tractors and motors to power units and air compressor out of a farm truck. We have decided that our office needs to be where we are so we are building one behind our house beside the barn. It will not only be safer but alot easier. All we will have to do is walk over instead of driving

I will be taking this week off from blogging so I can devote it to my children since they are out of school.

Also with the holiday approaching and Thanksgiving family travel it would just be to much. I know you understand and I am so grateful for each and every one of you and I love reading your blogs and catching up on what happening in you life. I am thankful of the friends I have met along the way and truly blessed that I have you to share my memories and crazy times with. If I seem out of it from now until the first of the year it is simply because I am!!! Building Farm Office, Arena, Vegas trip, Rhetts 4th Birthday, and Christmas may just take its toll on me.

Today we are headed out ot take a road trip to Texas to pick up 12 pregnant heifers. 

We are all just excited to add these to the farm. 

We are going to spend the night in Shreveport so that means:

Elf on Shelf north Pole Breakfast

I found this wonderful idea on Pinterest and loved it. I am def going to have to add it to our Christmas traditions. Our Elf's name is Elfie, it was Charlie but somehow over the last 2 years it got changed.

Super, our elf, made his first appearance of 2010 this morning!!!To celebrate, we had our first ever North Pole Breakfast! There's that little sneaky guy! He wrote letters to the littles...
...and brought a little treat!Warm socks to keep those piggies toasty...after all, it's reeeeeally cold in the North Pole! Daddy read the classic Elf on the Shelf, which reminded us that we can't touch Super...so he brought a little puppet the littles can play with any time they want! And then it was time for classic North Pole breakfast food... Snow-covered Donuts... ...and Floating Glacier Hot Cocoa! He even brough a big Peppermint Kiss straight from the jolly old fella himself...and teeny tiny Kisses from Rudolph and the other reindeer, of course! The donuts were a big hit... ...but the laughs shared ...and the memories made - like a little someone's first taste of hot cocoa - were even better! Such a fun morning spent together...Can't wait until next year's North Pole Breakfast, our new tradition to celebrate the start of the holiday season!

Christmas Traditions

I know that Thanksgiving hasn't even come yet but I just love Christmas so much that all I can think about is Christmas. We are big on Christmas traditions and that is for me the favorite part. I know for a lot of you putting the Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving is a big tradition but as far as ourselves we sometimes do that and sometimes week before Thanksgiving or week after depending on how our lives are at that time. I'm always looking for more fun and interesting traditions.

Our traditions:

Saturday before Christmas: we always have my Grandparents and celebrate over there for lunch then we head over to my other grandparents that evening to do the same.
Christmas Eve Morning: we bake cookies for Santa

 and decorate them then cook up all kinds of appetizers for the next day and get a head start on what can be done ahead of time. We also get my fine china out and wash the dust off because on Christmas morning is the only time it gets used. Then we go to my parents for late lunch and have Christmas there then we head to Farmers parents for evening and have Christmas there. After we get home we will open the presents from each other and set out Santas Cookies and Dr. Pepper or Coke because Santa must be tired of drinking milk. HaHa                                     ( Copacetic In Carolina ) always has the best appetizers

 Christmas Morning: We get up and pop the pre-made breakfast casseroles in the oven, then first do stockings then open up all of Santas presents.

 While the breakfast is being prepared we assemble what needs to be assembled and put batteries in everything and do a little cleaning up paper mess and opened boxes. I love using my china at Christmas even though it is only breakfast but it is fun and pretty and needs to be used so why not. Christmas is a special occasion right!

After breakfast I clean up the kitchen while the farmer and kids finish getting the the goodies together and opened.
That afternoon we go to Farmers Mamaws and have Christmas there. Then home to relax and usually we will watch a movie that night.


I usually don't go shopping the day after Thanksgiving because I'm not a crowd lover I would rather get my mom to pick it up or eBay it or buy online. But this year Maci is getting to the age to where she can keep up and I remember going with my mom every year until the last few years and it was alot of fun so I'm thinking it would be fun to do this year and bring her along.

Food Loving Friday

This week has been a trying one. First of all I havent had any Chick fil A or Coffee so you know what kind if week this one has been. I would give anything if I had Starbucks and Chick fil A in my area!!! I'm so tired and this time change aint helping one bit. Ive got to get adjusted! So for my Food Friday I have found a few that Im wanting to try.
