Fishing out at the Farm

Nick got off early one afternoon so we decided to do a little fishing on the farm with the kids.

This is my favorite farm out of all the farms we farm.
There are endless things to get into here and if I had my way I would move all the way out here and spend the rest of my time of earth  here I think it is probably the closest thing to heaven.

Some parts are clear and as you can see that dark spot in the water is a fish and the kids love seeing is swimming around and trying to catch it.

Nick and Mauri moved to another spot and began to have a fee bites and nibbles.
There was a gar and Mauri wanted to catch it so bad even though we told her they were not a good fish to catch but she was determined.

Catch and release is what we were doing that day due to we were not wanting to clean and fry fish that day. It is also a good lesson to teach the kids about preserving wildlife and not being wasteful.

Another thing I am thankful for is that this picture says it all:
How many 7 year old do you know that can change bait, hooks, corks, know how to put the weight on it and how deep to put the line. Rhett is obsessed with anything outdoors and I foresee many of times like this in his future. It also comes in handy when I can pretend I don't know how to do it and tell him how awesome he is at it and then he will do mine. Well played I know

Mauri is trying to catch her a shark, she calls catfish sharks ever since she was little and saw it for the first time. Still to this day she calls them that and we still laugh.

This 4 foot gator got hooked on Nicks line and I kind of panicked for a minute but he would spit out the line and then Nick would throw it back at him and had a blast watching him. The kids and I were in the back of the truck because we are not as brave. I yelling let him go he is going to eat you, Mauri is yelling get him daddy and make me a purse, Rhett is yelling no I need some boots and Maci is yelling she wants to fry him up so it was all blast. Needless to say we left him alone and there are several more out there and even a huge one we love to just watch them and observe.

Farm Friday

As the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac the wet muddy buckshot rice and beans ground it a mess so the Farmer had to get some new combine shoes on these are called tracks. They make it to where the combine will not get stuck in the field.

Look at how these farm equipments are getting so tech savvy. I thought I was going to catch up some if my trash reality TV shows on this TV but the Farmer explained it wasn't a TV it was a monitor that ran off satellite. Yes I was sadly disappointed and wanted off immediately. How boring would it of been if Ive stayed? Well I sucked it up and stayed yes I love my husband that much or at least that day I did.

How many men does it take to clean off a header?

This header is on the front of the combine and it has teeth that scoops the rice and feeds it through a belt and send it to the back of the combine also know as hopper

This is the hopped it has a window inside the combine and this is what it looks like from inside the combine. This is where is stores until it is full

Once full the grain cart will come and it will come from out of the hopper through the auger and dumps it all out on the grain cart and then the grain cart takes it to the 18wheelers and then they take it and store it in the grain bins

Its Harvest time in this little town

I HATE this time of year
Its a month down and at least another 2 I'm sure and if we get any rain it will make it longer. The work hours suck and I don't see how they work those long hours 7 days a week. I have to compliment our hard workers we actually have had very good crew these last 2 years and it makes a big difference. Farming isn't for the faint of heart and not everyone can survive the grueling work hours it takes...myself being one of them.

Loading the corn and once the truck is full it will then go to grain bins

I went to visit the Farmer and at my favorite field and before I knew it I was disking. {FYI ots never a good idea to leave a Farmers wife unattended...I disked liked a Hoss I was getting it. He knows I like to drive fast so he put me on strick rules I could only go to 9th gear :( I mean when you can disk like this why cant I speed up? Air conditioner, loud music jamming peaceful just peaceful I need to do this more often a great stress reliever. The Farmer kept telling me don't get his Beans...I know the difference between coffee bean and beans...wait do I? LOL

I even had it all parked in the right spot and I folded the disk in all neat and nice.

I want the sprayrig next time but the Farmer said Hell to tha No
But Im working on it :}

Dont come....You are not welcome

Isaac Please go away you are so not welcome here. We still have crops in the field and we made it through the dry hot summer without hardly any rain so I promise ya we don't need you now we are fine without you. Not only for our crops which I am number 1 concerned about {selfish I know but that's our lively hood} but I'm also concerned of the safety of everyone in the path of you. I wish nothing but the best for you so you now can turn around and go away or even better just disappear.
Please & Thank You

Dear Lord:
I know that I have to leave everything with you and I know you have everything already planned out and we shouldn't question or worry about things but I'm scared so I am giving this to you and I pray that you take this away and if this is your will I pray that you make it lite and not do any damage. Amen

Farm Friday

Any guesses what this plant is?     Soybeans

a few left over corn seeds was left in the planter and the Farmer cant have that

Thank goodness we have some free labor that wanted to help

Now this is my favorite part about going to the field, the nice and very cold well water. MY kids also love playing in it as well I think they get that from their Momma. The farmer not so much...poly pipe and water means to him that is is HOT and no rain.

I'm taking note this year and have picked out some end rows to make a garden on next year. The best part...I wouldn't even have to water it due to the poly pipe. YES! When the farmer turn on the water well to water his field it would water my garden too. Then all I would have to do is worry about my herb garden in my pots. *Winning*

Day on the Farm

A day in the life on the Farm is all about getting a little dirty. When doing rice water you have to break a levy and let the water flow unto the next rice patty. So get to shoveling sister

Once the levy is broke the water flows over to the next section. My favorite part is playing in it

The water that is coming into the rice field is being pumped out of a flown ditch and you never know what you are going to find sming in your rice patty. Mauri found her a nice fish swimming right  by her feet. She grabbed it up and was so brave while Rhett is hiding right behind me hollering OMG, OMG, the farmer didnt like that one bit. LOL

Watch out for you little piggies because you might feel a little pinch.

We also stopped by the lake and caught a few sharks as Rhett would say. He caught the most catfish as soon as his pole would hit the water he would get a bite I dont know how he did it.

Mauri giving her fish a little smooch

This was the end to a perfect day on the Farm.

I cant leave out what is really important ont his special day

Farm Friday

The corn planting is all over and its up and looking good.

My farmer takes the tractor another round. This is what my view looked like all day while getting this field rowed up and ready to plant soy beans on.

The kids visited the mamaw and so I thought that was the perfect for a tractor ride with my farmer. Since the kids came along it seem they are the ones getting his buddy seat so it was nice to have it back for a day. {Sshhh... Don't tell the Farmer but about 1/2 a day is all I can take.} I did enjoy the one on one time I got to spend with the Farmer so that made up for the boring and rough tractor ride.
I appreciate the work that he does more and more I ride with him because I couldn't do it. Same ole same ole up and down the field. My ADD would be in crisis mode.

Ranch News:
We had a new calf hit the ground a few days ago. She is a red Hereford instead of black. That sok we knew a few would be because the cows we bought in Alabama was already bred.

Weekend Recap

Like Bret Michaels always says: Whatssa goin on?
With it calving season here on the Ranch we are always on the watch for new calves to hit the ground.

While school is in I love and I do mean I live for Fridays. I know that if we have no plans for that night I like to get my dinner finished or at least started before I leave to pick up the girls from school. So Rhett and I decided to make Spaghetti & Meatballs. I just love this lil Punk! Totally melts my heart
We are so in love with Netflix and currently cant get into Heartland. Its a TV series about a Ranch and the Mom died in car wreck while trying to rescue a horse and daughters are taking care of the Ranch with the help of her Papaw. It started in 2007 I think but just found it and playing catch up. Only 2 seasons are on Netflix so we ordered the rest of the seasons. We had 0 plans so that meant we would be piled up for the night.
When it got really dark we went to check out the new arena lights and see if it truly lit up the while arena like we were told. The kids ran wild and loved the light, they could play all night long.
Mauri & Wrangler

Saturday was another no plans day. Wow we had the while weekend nothing to do no where we had to go. Cant even begin to tell you how excited I was. After sleeping in we did a routine cow check and look what we found: another newborn calf. This is Chubby's 3 boy. She has had one every February
Isn't he just cute...I love newbies.
Yes the Farmer did a check and notice I said he, haha

Sunday...Funday
I'm a Manning fan so its who else would I be pulling for?
I cant stand weird TomBoy so it was huge to beat him AGAIN!!!

While the game was going on I did a little browsing and found myself a little Valentines present
and that was my lazy weekend.

Last of the Harvest

I know how late this is but better late than never right?
Cotton was the last crop to harvest and now that it is out of the field harvest is over but farming is not. It slows down drastically but over it is not! Now they will be disking the stalks and getting all of the fields ready to plant for Spring. this year was one of the prettiest cotton years we have had in a while. Here are pictures of this years cotton harvest.
This is called a 5 lock bowl of cotton, there are four locks also.
The Farmer and his Brother (the other Farmer)

Discussing farm and everythign going on , they were really into it they didnt even notice Maci, HaHa

Cotton Picker picking all the white cotton

The kids playing on top of the cotton module while Daddy tags it so when it goes to the cotton gin they will know who it belongs to.

Three years ago we came across a bald eagle pair that made its huge nest in our break and have been living their ever since. We enjoy them building their nest in a new tree each year and watching their babies fly out and venture off. I need to get some close up pictures of the nest so you can see how huge it is.
Here is one on the look out.

Farm Friday

The kids have been wanting to go to the field but unfortunately we have been super busy with school, allergy shots twice a week, horse lessons, homework, birthday parties, and life itself that we just haven't had the extra time. So finally here it is....

Rice is in full harvest now that the corn is over.
The girls having a wonderful time and enjoying the cooler weather! It was in the upper 70's last weekend. Please o Please come back cooler weather!
Rhett with his dirty mouth I guess he needs...Orbit! HaHa
Full ...waiting on the grain carts to come back so they empty
It looks like they were a little impatient now...Looks like they are saying Hello we are ready so hurry!
Got Rice?  We do!
The Lord has really blessed us this year with wonderful crops and we are so thankful!
I know the men folks have worked their hinnies off also being that is was the hottest summer and the driest summer as well. So far so good. Next it is on to Soybeans and Cotton.
